I joined the protests: Stop SOPA/PIPA

Join the Protests! Stop SOPA/PIPA!

Some people may be wandering “Why” a Web Developer may join the protests again SOPA/PIPA…But its actually pretty simple: SOPA/PIPA is against the internet as a whole.

I love the internet, I work on it, I spend my time on it and I study and learn on it. SOPA would change everything about me creating websites, posting articles, linking cool stuff on this blog and pretty much all kind of activities on Social Networks. The Web has evolved a lot with their growth and they came to stay, facebook, youtube, twitter and even search engines like Google are against it.

Wikipedia, Reddit and WordPress already “Blacked-out” to remind people so taking that as an initiative, I’m trying to do what I can. Liking the Stop Sopa Website, and adding a few details in my header…It may be something small, but I’m not as big as those giants :)

Google has censored his own logo on his US site, and added a few lines to remind people. Mozilla has also blacked-out their sites. Gaming sites all over the world have already blacked-out. Web designers are starting to unite against this, from magazines to online networks. Dont let them waste this day.

For those that dont know what SOPA is: I’m gonna leave a video here to understand more about it:

PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet from Fight for the Future on Vimeo.

This means, that both SOPA and PIPA lets the government do what they want to censor the web, trying to share an article? Then you’ll be censored and taken down. They will remove your sites from search engines and you would not be able to use your domain anymore. Want to share a song you made using a Creative Commons License online? Want to share an article? A tweet? A facebook status? Then protest against this. This is an abuse of power and control and It’s one of the most insidious threats to democracy in the Internet age.

“When ideas are blocked, information deleted, conversations stifled and people constrained in their choices, the Internet is diminished for all of us.. There isn’t an economic Internet and a social Internet and a political Internet. There’s just the Internet.”

– Hillary Clinton (United States Secretary of State)

So that being said: Please, Support those protests. Stop SOPA, It’s just ridiculous. Go to, fill the fields! Write an email to your congress and share the word. We all love the world wide web, with the freedom it has.
